GROUND WATER
ACTIVITIESOF THE GROUND WATER DEPARTMENT: NAGARKURNOOL DIST
The Ground Water Department is a multi-disciplinary department engaged mainly in
- monitoring of water levels, generation and dissemination of data, periodic estimation of groundwater resources as per GEC methodology,
- investigations for selection of well sites, artificial recharge structures etc, construction of bore wells/tube wells under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Special Development Fund,
- feasibility of groundwater resources under Land Purchase Scheme (Bhoopampini) to SC and ST landless families, registration of Rigs etc.
- Carries out groundwater quality monitoring from all principle aquifers of state during pre as well as post monsoon season and assess its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes.
The Government regularly monitors the performance of department through 4 major indicators, namely Investigations, Monitoring, Quality and Drilling which covers the main activities of the Department:
FIELDS |
ACTIVITIES |
1. Ground Water Monitoring |
Monitoring of Piezometers / Observation wells to study Ground water levels, impact of programmes on ground water regime (i) Mission Kakatiya (ii) Artificial Recharge Shafts (iii) JalSakthiAbhiyan etc. |
2.Water Quality |
Collection of Groundwater samples from network of Piezometer/ observation wells for quality analysis for assessing the suitability of groundwater for drinking and irrigation purposes (twice a year i.e., Pre and post monsoons period). |
3.Ground Water Assessment(Ground Water Resource Estimation) |
Estimation of Ground Water Resource at village level bi-annually by collecting the data from the Line Departments.
|
3.Investigations |
1.Selection of Wells Sites: Number of sites investigated for selection of well sites, recharge structures etc., under various programmes like BhoopampiniProgramme, ARS, WALTA, Environmental Hydrogeological clearance etc., 2. Artificial Recharge Structures – A.R.S: In order to augment the depleting ground water resources, it is essential that the surplus monsoon runoff is conserved and recharged to augment ground water resources. The basic purpose of artificial recharge of ground water is to restore supplies from aquifers depleted due to excessive ground water development. The Ground Water Department is carrying out feasibility studies of various artificial recharge structure like Percolation tanks, Check dams etc. referred by concerned executing agencies like Irrigation Department, Rural Development Department etc. |
4.Drilling of Exploratory |
Drilling of bore wellsunder SCSDF and STSDF to create assured irrigation potential through ground water to the identified beneficiaries. |
5.Environmental Clearances |
Environmental Clearance (a) Industries (Ground Water) (b) Impact of Sand mining on groundwater regime. |
6.National Hydrology Project – N.H.P |
World Bank Aided project NATIONAL HYDROLOGY PROJECT– Establishment of additional piezometers / Maintenance of existingpiezometers/Erectionof Digital Water Level Recorders/GW Awareness programs |
