MINES & GEOLOGY

The office of the Asst. Director of Mines & Geology, Nagarkurnool was established on 11th October 2016 with jurisdiction of Nagarkurnool District videG.O.Ms.No. 227 Ind & Comm Dept., Dated 11-10-2016. As per the formation/Re-organization of Districts by the State Government, the newly formed Nagarkurnool District consists of 20 Mandals covered in 4 Revenue Divisions.

The Department of Mines and Geology carry out the functions of Regulatory, Promotional and Collection of Mineral Revenue to the State Exchequer. The Regulatory work involves receipts, processing of applications under Mineral Concession Rules. Inspection of applied areas/leased out areas, to monitor conservation and controlling of illicit Mining and Quarrying and transportation of Minerals.

The office of the Asst. Director of Mines and Geology, Nagarkurnool is located in House No.13-89/6/A, Opposite Collector Bungalow, Near Market Yard, Nagarkurnool District.

Minerals useful in Industries are classified as Major Mineral. Major Minerals are not available in Nagarkurnool District.

Minor Minerals:

Minerals useful in civil construction works, decorative purpose. The Minor Minerals available in the district are Building Stone & Road Metal, Gravel, Quartz, Feldspar, Black Granite, Colour Granite, Soapstone and Barytes. 67 Quarry Leases for Minor Minerals are existing in the district.

Sand Regulation:

The Government vide G.O.Ms.No. 3, Industries and Commerce (Mines.I) Department, Dt: 08.01.2015 have formulated Telangana State Sand Mining Rules, 2015 (TSSMR-2015) to regulate sand mining in the State of Telangana.

District Level Sand Committee: The Committee works under the Chairman ship of District Collector, comprising of Joint Collector as Vice Chairman, Executive Engineer, Irrigation Dept, Deputy Director, Ground water Dept, Executive Engineer RWS&S, Environmental Engineer, District Panchayat Officer, Nominee of TSMDC Ltd., and Asst. Director of Mines&Geology (Member Convenor) are members.

District Mineral Foundation (Trust):

The District Mineral Foundation Committee shall work for the interest and benefit of persons and areas affected by mining and mining related operations in the district.

District Minister/In-charge Minister is the Chairperson Ex-Officio, the District Collector is the Member Secretary, Chief Planning Officer is the Member Convener and PD, DRDA is the Treasurer of the District Mineral Foundation Committee.

Bank account in the name of District Mineral Foundation Trust was opened in the district. The Quarry lease holders in the district has to pay an amount @ 30% on payment of Seigniorage fee towards DMFT. The Government departments will deduct an amount @ 30 % on the payment of Seigniorage fee towards DMFT from the work bills of the contractors.

Mineral Revenue Target and Achievement for the year 2019–20:

The Mines and Geology Department is one of the Revenue earning Departments to the Government exchequer. The Government has fixed Revenue Targets for the financial year 2019-20 for this office for an amount of Rs. 15297.30 Lakhs.

Penalties on illegal excavation and transportation of minerals up to January 2020:

This office has collected penalty amount of Rs.13,10,800/- against the illegal excavation and transportation of minerals during the year 2019-20.
